When you come to Vaison, be prepared to downshift two gears and move into the slow lane.
There is little news, save for the news of one traumatic happening: our favorite restaurant/bakery (great for breakfast, outstanding for lunch), has closed and turned into a bar. Eating at "Le Sage" was on our short list of "things we were looking forward to," so this was a blow that had even the town's mannequins feeling downcast:
We still ate well. Saturday we were invited to a light lunch at neighbor Dominique and Lilian's. We sat in the sun for the first time in months (it was hot) and tried to keep up with the conversation over a meal of: champagne, pizza with anchovies and onions, creamed shrimp, bacon, pork chops and sausage, creamed squash, puree of potatoes and cream, broccoli puree, wine, tiramisu, coffee and cookies. Three hours later, we staggered home and realized we had forgotten to bring our camera. Oh well.
That evening we retrieved Asha's friend, Camille. Somehow we found plenty of room for dinner at "Stud" Pizza. Camille stayed overnight.
The next day (Sunday) was lazy, in keeping with Vaison tradition:
Asha and Camille |
Asha is due to attend school with Camille on Monday (at the College!). . . . both of them are so looking forward to it.
In the afternoon, we caught up with Nicolas Le Bras and his dad and little brother:
That evening we hosted the Benet family for dinner . . . Dmitri, Sylvie, 7-year old Jessica and Ford's best French friend, Nicolas. Ford and Nicolas picked up right where they left off and now Ford cannot wait to go to school with Nicolas on Tuesday (the only day "authorized" by the school). Here are some pictures of the evening . . . . (great meal, too):
Asha left after dessert to spend the night at Camille's, and Ford went home with the Benet to spend the night with Nicolas.
Here are a few more pictures (including a little rewind to Paris, just because the photos are good):
