This has made its mark in town. My neighbors are impressed. The parents at school are impressed, and more of them have talked to me, now that they know my "back story."
What's really most impressive about this is that the president of the soccer club called me on the phone, and I understood during this telephone conversation who she was, what she was asking about whether I would consent to be interviewed as a soccer coach, and when I would be called by the reporter. THAT was an accomplishment!
So call he did. And interview me over the phone he did. Now there is a nice article attributing quotes to me in French better than mine about how I have come to live here with my family for one year, how I have played soccer all my life (yes, a woman!), and how I am helping to coach the team of my daughter Asha who is herself a player. It's a double whammy: Americans AND female.
And, we surprisingly now have 2 new girls on the team! Which is good timing because Asha was tiring of the boys. Here they play soccer year 'round.
Last week there was a party for the players with cakes and candy and brand-new team jackets. They decorated our club house and it was very festive. Here is a glimpse of the spiffy jackets:
